fun with friends

We had a great visit with our friends Eric and Melissa this week. That means a lot given that we had some obstacles to a great visit (3 of the 4 of us were really sick at different points, and it rained a couple days). It is so wonderful to have some special Morocco memories with our Philly friends.

Here's a pic to go with the one from the last post :-)We went to Fez which has some really beautiful architecture, rich history, beautiful crafts and lots of hills.

Our guide took us through some really fun narrow alleys.
I had what turned out to be strep throat (I think you can tell in this pic) but still had a good time.
After Fes, we stopped in Meknes for dinner with some friends. It's a much bigger town than we thought it was. It was super fun to have dinner with our friends in part because they have two wonderful girls (almost 2 and 4) so Sam had some friends.

When we got to our hotel, Sam approved because of the headboard- he's kind of a connoiseur- every morning he explores ours wherever we're staying.
Then I caught Sam kissing himself in the mirror.

While we were getting dressed, we decided to try to catch Sam doing his Superman impression- he does it when he wants something across the room.

Here was a less successful attempt :-)John and Sam admiring the view from our balcony.

Truly a view worth marvelling at- I don't think Morocco has every looked as beautiful to me. In the middle of this picture are the Roman ruins at Volubilis.
I guess after all we put him through before 9:30am it's only to be expected that he got fussy before his morning naptime, but I wasn't expecting it from Eric.
The mud at Volubilis was that special kind that cakes onto your shoes like crazy. But it was perfect weather to explore the mosaics and ruins.

Unfortunately, we ran into some substantial rain for most of the rest of the trip including all of our time in the lovely blue and white town of Chefchaouen. Oh well...

Here's to friends who come across oceans to hang out in the rain!!

Sam gets honorable mention for doing a pretty good job in the car. We timed our longer drives around his naps and aside for about 20 minutes of fussing on the longest leg, he did pretty well. Eric and Melissa were awesome with him too so I didn't have to stress about him crying when he did.

I'm glad you're helping me save the world from losing Chuck, one episode at a time. I love that show, I feel like everytime I watch it I say "Awww Poor Chuck" at least 5 times. It sounds like you guys had a good visit with the Biewengas. We miss you all!
