Goodbye to Penang

Penang is a very very special place- it's John's favorite place in the whole world and it definitely ranks high for me too. It is beautiful and diverse culturally, has gourmet Asian foods, cheap shopping and entertainment, and on and on. Even if we didn't have family here we'd want to visit. Of course, family is the real highlight of Penang for us- it is so amazing that all of John's family live within a few miles of each other even though they are in Malaysia.

We will miss seeing them so often. I realized as we were saying goodbye to our nieces that when we see them again they will be much bigger- it's hard for me to know what that means for Ruthie (3 1/2) but for Lyddie I remember how old Ruthie was at 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 so I can imagine the change- it will be huge. That's really the saddest thing about living overseas is not seeing family often enough.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from our last days in Penang...

We all went out to a buffet for our anniversary- John had like 8 plates of Japanese food :-)

Here is Susan- a super mother, with Lydia a sweet pea:
And this is from a very sweet moment between Ruthie and John when she was asking about when we were leaving and when she'd see him again.

Caitlin, you're right that it's hard to live far away from family. I feel like that and I'm in the States, as is my whole family. I love all your photos and love reading your posts.
