A great week of French

John and I have finally had a week that felt sort of settled. John understands more of what our teachers are saying so he enjoyed French class more- we get a bit silly after several hours in a row though- sample dialogues from the end of class include:

Teacher-What are your hobbies?
John-My hobbies are the opera and sewing.

Teacher- pick an object in the room and describe it so the others can guess what it is
Caitlin- My object is with six other identical objects and is below three of them. It is a kind of food. (this was a cookie on the bottom of a pile of cookies and in a package with others- John voted it the worst object choice).

Teacher- Caitlin, can you give me a sentence that uses the imparfait tense (for things that were in the past but not at a specific point of time) and the passe compose (for things that happened in the past at a specific point of time).
Caitlin- When I had my dog, Chelsea, one day I had an accident.
John (in english once he'd figured out what I'd said)- that is the worst sentence ever, couldn't you have just said "When I had my dog, she bit someone."?

Anyway- our teachers are great and though it's obvious that we have tons and tons to learn, we are at the enjoyable early stages of language learning in which it is obvious that we are making progress.

As a side note, Sam stays with us during our three hours of class at the language school and he has been doing great. At first, he mostly slept or had to be bounced up and down, but now he sometimes sits on one of our laps and just plays with a toy. Once, he even got the answer to a question right. Our teacher asked if something was masculine or feminine by saying un or une and Sam said "un"- he was right!
